Guns

I don’t get it! The NRA has 4 million members. There are how many people in the US.? Why do we bend and shape our gun laws around them? Perhaps a quick check of who funds the NRA holds the answer. Check it out; Ill bet its gun companies.

The second amendment guarantees the right to own guns, for the purpose of a well regulated Militia. My proposal would be to rearm the nations military with muskets.

Religion and the Consitution

It has always been my understanding that the constitution specifically separated church and state to protect the state from religion. Some revisionist historians are proposing that the separation of church and state was intended to protect religion from the state.

        Does it make a difference?

Does the elimination of prayer in public schools protect the state, or protect religion?

Does removing the Ten Commandments from the public square protect religion or protect the state?

It seems to me that the choice is to have no religion, or every religion. There is no middle ground.

Big Fucking Bridge

The federal government is going to spend approximately 3.4 billion dollars this year.  That is 3,400,000,000 dollars.  The government will receive about 2.2 billion dollars in taxes.  Ok; do the math… a deficit if 1.2 billion.  That is 1,200,000,000 dollars.  Those are big numbers; but that is not my point.  I know how to save the government 275,000 dollars and thereby putting a dent in the deficit and possibly saving public radio or even Planned Parenthood.  Now for those of you who do math; you know that none of this make sense.

However WE can save 275,000 dollars of federal money by not building that big freaking bridge in Woody Creek so a bunch of spandex wearing humans can be safe from going down a hill.  I thought that was what speed bumps are for.  We put them all through Woody Creek to slow those bikers down.  Why not put a few on the bike path?  Of course there are those that want to build the bridge so we can see the Woody Creek.  That makes sense especially when you consider its dry by the end of summer because of those selfish people up stream taking water to plush up their hobby farms.  Who cares about fish anyway?

Not sick of Mick

I am already sick of the “sick of Mick” campaign.
Those “sick of Mick” people deserve Herbert Hoover. Actually they should go recruit the mayor of Vail (whomever that is) as it seems like a Vail is what they want.
Who can leap tall buildings in a single bound? I don’t know I think he or she is practicing in Vail.
I for one as thankful that there is someone looking after the long term interests of all in our community, instead of the short term interests of the monied few. I hope Mick is mayor as long as its legal and then becomes a county commissioner again. Maybe then we will be landing 737’s or their equivalent and he will bulldoze the runway expansion.
All seriousness aside; what better way to grow our property values than to create a town that considers the environment as a design system of living, playing and learning.

Hello world!

This is the beginning of a new site for my blog.  Eventually I will close the old blog at fidelduke.blogspot.com.  I will move some of the better posts over time so stay tuned.
Who am I?  I have asked that question many times over the years and the answer seems in flux.  For now…. a couple of data points might be appropriate. Raul Duke was the main character in Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  Fidel Castro is the former head of Cuba.  Raul Castro is his brother and the current head of Cuba.  Hunter S. Thompson lived in Woody Creek.  I live in Woody Creek.
I never knew Hunter, and I certainly do not claim to have any writing skills  We do share a love of opinions and while his might be a bit more consistent, mine are a bit eclectic. I love to think of all sides.
I have come to know Hunter”s widow, Anita.  She is a fine woman and a major benefactor in our community.  She keeps our caucus together, and I love to see her at the community center.
But this blog is not about Hunter, or anything Hunteresque.  It is about Fidel and who he might be and how he might think about life at any given point in time…
